The initiative in Cambridge is the first in the country, which began in February of this year and is considered a potential model for other NHS establishments if successful.
Projections around the project could amount to substantial losses for the institute in the first few years, leading into the tens of millions. Circle management have failed to comment on what level of cuts will be required and have stated their main concern is to improving services for the health care trust. Their goal is to not just to turn the hospital into a sustainable entity but to make it one of the most successful general hospitals in the country.
Head of health at Unison, Christina McAnea has called for assurances from Circle that they do not attempt to profit from the deal until debts are paid off in full. She believes that any excess money should be going into providing for patients and paying off the hospitals debts, not turned into profits for the company.
